Louis Blessing’s Lies
My opponent has been flooding mailboxes with flyers that scream, TY HOGAN FAILED US. But here’s the irony: I haven’t even held public office yet, so how could I have ‘failed’ anyone?

"Ty Hogan has failed to vote in seventeen recent elections"
One of the claims is that I missed voting in previous elections, we aren’t sure what he defines as “recent” as he cites voting records going back to 1990. I couldn’t vote in 1990. This also includes time when I was registered to vote in another state, and while I was overseas in the Marines and unable to receive an absentee ballot.
Also, we believe he’s relying on a list from the Ohio Secretary of State that doesn’t align with my voting record from the Clermont County Board of Elections, which shows me voting in elections that aren’t even on the Secretary of State’s list.
Attacking a veteran’s voting record for the time they were overseas serving our country is a new low. Honestly, it makes me even more motivated to be running for office—because as my slogan says, Imagine Better. We can do better, and I’m committed to leading by example and bringing integrity back to Ohio politics."

"Ty Hogan has publicly called for tax increases for Hamilton County families as part of his economic plan"
Louis Blessing’s claim that I want to raise taxes on all Ohioans, including struggling families, is misleading. My plan actually focuses on easing the burden of regressive taxes, specifically the sales tax, which disproportionately affects low-income Ohioans. While I aim to eliminate business taxes like the Financial Institutions Tax and the Commercial Activity Tax to make Ohio more competitive for businesses, I believe that high-net-worth individuals, with incomes over $1,000,000, should help close budget gaps through fair capital gains contributions. While these high-net-worth individuals also worked incredible hard to get where they are, it’s the best way to ease budget shortfalls. My goal is to build an economy that benefits everyone and brings high-paying jobs to the 8th District.

"Ty Hogan opposes requiring a photo ID to vote"
Blessing cites my LinkedIn profile while making this claim. I honestly have no idea where this came from. I did make the following post on Facebook on March 12th:
“Ohioans will vote in this year's primary election in 7 days, and I would like to thank my opponent for a recent post on X encouraging voter participation.
I can't express the same gratitude for his career making Ohio one of the most difficult states for legal working-class Ohioans to vote in.
Expired license can't vote. Suspended license can't vote. County-issued veterans' ID card can't vote.
Imagine an Ohio government that didn't suppress a million eligible voters because of an honest mistake with their license. Imagine if Ohio joined the other twenty-four state governments with automatic voter registration (AVR). For example, when you made that dreaded trip to the DMV, you were automatically registered to vote. It's the easy button for voter registration.
AVR would strengthen Ohio's democratic system, save Ohioans time and frustration with less unnecessary bureaucratic paperwork, and ACTUALLY increase voter participation.”
In the case of Veterans ID cards, which don’t have a photo, I absolutely think that if someone who put their life on the line to defend our democracy, wants to participate in that same democracy, than by all means they should be able to. If my opponent doesn’t agree that veterans should be able to vote, I’m not sure what I can do to help him.

"Ty Hogan supports costly and divisive Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives"
Blessing cites my Facebook profile while making this claim, and once again, I’m not sure where he found that.
I do not by any means support forcing diversity. While I believe that having a large range of viewpoints is inherently beneficial to a company, it should not be required.
I’m focused on common-sense policies that create opportunity for all Ohioans, not divisive agendas. My priority is to ensure the 8th District has access to high-paying, meaningful careers, strong local businesses, and economic growth that lifts everyone in our community. I stand by policies that work for everyone, not a specific agenda.
